Aircraft (Carriage of Dangerous Goods) Rules 2026 Notified

The Government of India has notified the Aircraft (Carriage of Dangerous Goods) Rules, 2026, with the objective of strengthening the regulatory framework governing the transport of hazardous materials by air. The rules align India’s regime more closely with international standards, including the technical instructions of ICAO and place enhanced compliance obligations on airlines, shippers and other stakeholders involved in the handling and carriage of dangerous goods.

The framework introduces stricter requirements relating to classification, packaging, labelling, documentation and handling of dangerous goods, along with enhanced training and certification obligations for personnel. It also provides for increased oversight and enforcement by aviation authorities, including inspections and penalties for non-compliance. The rules are expected to improve safety standards across the aviation ecosystem while ensuring greater regulatory clarity and accountability in the transportation of hazardous materials.
